This course equips participants with the necessary knowledge and skill to make effective judgements on a person’s competency by means of assessments.

The participant will be able to conduct assessments within their fields of expertise, as well as, carry out assessments in a fair, valid, reliable and practicable manner that is free of all bias and discrimination.

Course Pre-Requisites

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of outcomes-based assessments
Prepare for assessments
Conduct assessments
Provide feedback on assessments
Review assessments

Course Content

– Comparisons between outcomes-based and another form of assessments, highlighting key differences in terms of the underlying philosophies and approaches to assessments

– An outline of advantages and disadvantages of outcomes-based assessments

– The purpose, process and related benefits and challenges of Recognition of Prior Learning

– Descriptions of a variety of assessment methods

– The approach to giving feedback.

– Preparation of assessment resources, logistics, documentation and environment to meet requirements
– Parties involved in the assessment are notified in good time to ensure they are ready and available
– Pre-assessment moderation requirements are carried out
– Assessment details are explained to candidates
– Inputs are sought from candidates
– Candidates’ readiness is confirmed.

  • – Assessment practices promote effective, manageable, fair and safe assessments
  • – Assessments are carried out according to the assessment design
  • – Questioning techniques are appropriate
  • – Sufficient evidence is gathered
  • – Assessment judgements are consistent.
  • – Feedback is given to relevant parties in accordance with confidentiality requirements
  • – Feedback is clear and confined to strengths and weaknesses in a candidate’s performance
